Maus Images

On page 74 in MAUS, it states "But these damn bugs are eating me alive."  This was an interesting quote because it is saying that an insect is bugging them when they are all animals in the story.
I didn't discuss this in the seminar, but I think that one of the reason the author made the characters animals was because that all the other books that discuss the Holocaust are strictly fact based books and the author was just trying to sell a novel.  I think that since he was an artist it did helped, but I think the main goal was selling and making a profit off a book.
It is really interest that the Jews are mice and the Nazis are cats because obviously cats are more powerful then mice and they eat mice.  Also, that mice are considered a pointless rodent in society and that is the way the Nazis thought of Jews.  They were trying to dehumanize them by giving them an animal that was just scattered about not doing in society and that is the way the Nazis viewed Jews.  I thought this concept was extremely interesting.
